Walnut Hill Church Weekly Letter

Tuesday, November 26, 2013

Greetings to all!

On this Tuesday* before Thanksgiving we might do well to reflect on a
portion of President Washington's first Thanksgiving Day proclamation.

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day
of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to
the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent
author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may
then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks
for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous
to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and
the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and
conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union,
and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and
rational manner in which we have been able to establish
constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and
particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and
religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have
of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for
all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to
confer upon us.

each Saturday morning, 8am, at Paneras on Richmond Road.
Feel free to stop by for as long or short a time as your schedule
allows.  No rsvp required.

Sunday Conversations continue this Sun, Dec 1, 10am, in
Trinity Hall, as we begin a four-Sunday scripture study, "Unto Us
A Child Is Born."  This Sunday's conversation, titled "What Are We
Waiting For?", explores the prophets' hope, particularly as expressed
by the prophet Isaiah.

THE CHRISTMAS POTLUCK will be held this Sunday, Dec 1,
immediately after morning worship.  Bring a salad, side dish, or
dessert and join us for this delicious Walnut Hill tradition.

The Giving Tree will be up in Trinity Hall beginning this Sun, Dec 1.
Each ornament on the tree represents a gift for a child or adult.
Select an ornament, purchase the suggested gift, and return the
gift (with the ornament) by Sun, Dec 15.

Poinsettias: Walnut Hill members and friends are invited to sponsor
poinsettias for the Sanctuary at $20/plant.  Poinsettia sponsors are
welcome to take their plant(s) home after Christmas.  Make your
check payable to Walnut Hill Church, designated "poinsettia."

Thanks to your generosity, Walnut Hill has been able to reach out
to those affected by the recent Philippine typhoon ($806) and the
