Walnut Hill Church Weekly Letter

Wednesday, February 4, 2015

Greetings to all!

Today, February 4, is the birthday of Rosa Louise McCauley Parks,
whose refusal to yield her seat on a city bus was the spark igniting
the "Montgomery Bus Boycott" of 1955-56.  Mrs. Parks is sometimes
referred to as the "mother of the civil rights movement."  Regarding
her arrest, Mrs. Parks recalled...

"People always say that I didn't give up my seat because I was tired,
but that isn't true.  I was not tired physically, or no more tired than I
usually was at the end of a working day.  I was not old, although
some people have an image of me as being old then.  I was forty-
two.  No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in."
(quote from My Story)
