Walnut Hill Church Weekly Letter

Wednesday, March 2, 2016

Greetings to all!

We are now about halfway through Lent, long enough perhaps to have
forgotten, or simply given up, any particular Lenten practices we might
have intended for the season.  If so, good news! This too is part of the
Lenten experience, discovering that while "the spirit is willing, the flesh
is often weak."  Don't be discouraged even though the journey seems
to be long and the way not so clear, which is true whether speaking of
Lent or life.  So whether you have stumbled, gotten lost, or simply gotten
tired, it is never too late to get back on your feet, check for directions,
and take a step, and then another, and then another.  Such is the
Lenten (life) journey.

In Memory:  Anne DeHart Coulter, a member of Walnut Hill Church,
departed this life on February 24, 2016.  Services and interment were
held on February 27, 2016, at the Lexington Cemetery Mausoleum.

The lectionary texts for Sun, Mar 6, the Fourth Sunday in Lent…
Joshua 5:9-12
2 Corinthians 5:16-21
Luke 15:1-3, 11-32

The Rt. Rev. Douglas Hahn, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of
Lexington, will visit Walnut Hill this Sunday, March 6.  Bishop Hahn
will visit informally with us during the 10am Sunday Conversation
hour.  He will also preach during morning worship (11am).  Bishop
Hahn's visit is an affirmation of Walnut Hill's ecumenical relationship
with the Diocese of Lexington.

Children's Choir: Children through elementary age are invited to
gather for music and singing this Sun, Mar 6, 10am, in Trinity Hall.
The children are practicing music to be presented during worship on
Palm Sunday (Mar 20).

Long Range Planning Forum III will be held on Sunday, March 20,
3:30pm - 5:00pm.  The focus of this conversation will be Walnut Hill's
grounds and buildings.  This is the third of four conversations, which
are part of the long range planning process.

Refreshment Hosts are needed for several Sundays upcoming,
beginning Sun, Mar 13.  Visit the online sign up sheet for Sundays
available for hosting, or check out the traditional sign up sheet in the
Sanctuary foyer.  Thanks to all our Sunday refreshment hosts.

Holy Week:  It is not too early to start thinking about Holy Week at
Walnut Hill including…
*Sun, Mar 20, Palm Sunday: children's music presentation,
procession of the palms, egg hunt.
*Thu, Mar 24, Maundy Thursday: evening prayer at 7pm.
*Sun, Mar 27, Easter Sunday: sunrise service at 7am,
morning worship and sacrament at 11am.

Easter Lilies:  As is our custom, the Walnut Hill Sanctuary will be
decorated with lilies on Easter Sunday.  You may sponsor a lily
for $20.  Sponsorships may be memorial or honorary.  Make your
check payable to Walnut Hill, designated "Easter Lily." Be sure to
indicate if your lily is in memory/honor of someone.

Peace to all.

Mike Ward
