Walnut Hill Church Weekly Letter

Tuesday, July 3, 2012

Greetings to all!

Though we observe it on the 4th rather than the 2nd, may the spirit of our
Independence Day celebration be that which is expressed in the well-known
words of John Adams...

The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the
history of America.  I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding
generations as the great anniversary festival.  It ought to be commemorated
as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.  It ought
to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells,
bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this
time forward for ever more.
(as found in Call to America)

The Scripture lessons for Sunday, July 8...
Ezekiel 2:1-5
2 Corinthians 12:2-10
Mark 6:1-13
