Walnut Hill Church Weekly Letter

Wednesday, February 20, 2019

Greetings to all!

Tomorrow, Feb 21, Pope Francis convenes a gathering of Church leaders from
around the world to address the misconduct and abuse scandal that has rocked
the Church in recent years. Opinions vary regarding the prospect of meaningful
changes arising out of this gathering. At the very least, the gathering provides
an example, writ large, of what many institutions, large and small, religious and
secular, must do when they fail to embody their own ideals, namely acknowledge
those failures, address them openly, and make such corrections as necessary to
be their best selves again, or perhaps for the first time. Will the Catholic Church
be able to restore its integrity and recover its voice for the good news of God's
love?  I hope so, and that not just for the Church's sake, but as a sign of hope for
the redemption of other organizations and individuals as well.
