Walnut Hill Church Weekly Letter

Wednesday, June 8, 2011

Greetings to all!

Fred Wachs departed this life on Sunday, June 5.  As well as being a member of Walnut Hill Church,
Fred was also a "member" of what is often called the "Greatest Generation," having served in the Pacific
during World War II, followed by a long life of service to his family and  community.  Tom Brokaw speaks
for many when he writes about the legacy of the "Greatest Generation"...

I am a child of the American men and women who grew up in the Great Depression, who came of age
during World War II and then devoted their adult years to the building of modern America...As I
walked the beaches of Normandy on the 40th and 50th anniversaries of D-Day, I first began to fully realize
how they had shaped my life. They were my parents and the parents of my friends, teachers, ministers,
physicians, and hometown merchants, the men and women who showed me the way through their own
exacting standards of hard work, sacrifice, and personal responsibility.  I began to understand how much
I owed them.
(from The Greatest Generation Speaks)

Funeral service and burial for Fred Wachs will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 11am, at Walnut Hill
Church and Cemetery.

on Richmond Road.  Feel free to stop in for as long or short a time as your schedule permits.  No rsvp required.

Sunday Conversations continue this Sunday, June 12, 10am, in Trinity Hall.  Sunday Conversations
include a wide variety of topics from week to week.  Come enjoy a cup of coffee, join the conversation, or
just listen in.  Nursery care is provided.

Church World Service School Kits - As part of our outreach to the world around us, Walnut Hill will be
assembling emergency "school kits" to be distributed to children in areas affected by natural disaster.  These
school kits provide the basic supplies needed for a child to return to school including one pair of scissors (rounded
tip), three 70-page spiral notebooks, one 12" (30 cm) ruler, one hand-held pencil sharpener, one large
eraser, six new pencils, one box of 24 crayons.  You can help in this project by donating any of the
preceding items or by donating cash/check to be used in purchasing such items.  Donations are being
accepted for the next two Sundays, June 12 and 19.

Peace to all.

Mike Ward
